Hyundai Santa Fe

Issue. On certain vehicles, the lower anchor for the front seat belt(s) may have been damaged during service. As a result, the seat belt(s) could detach in a crash. Note: For the 2026 model year Santa Fe, this recall only affects the Santa Fe hybrid (HEV) model.

Safety risk. A seat belt that detaches in a crash could increase the risk of injury.

Corrective action. The company will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and reinforce the lower seat belt anchors. The seat belt assemblies will be replaced, as necessary.

Issue. On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the instrument panel cluster to reboot while driving. As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer, fuel gauge, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), warning lights and malfunction tell-tales. Note : For the Santa Fe model, this recall only affects the hybrid model. For the Palisade model, both gas and hybrid models are affected. For the Tucson model, gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models are affected.

Safety risk. Warnings, tell-tales and gauges that don't display could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the instrument panel cluster software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Hyundai dealership.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the rearview camera may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the wiring could become damaged and cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse.

Safety risk. A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the camera wiring harness.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the starter motor's terminal cover may not have been installed properly. As a result, the positive terminal could be exposed and contact nearby components in a crash. If this happens, there could be a short circuit.

Safety risk. A short circuit could create the risk of a fire and/or injury.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, reinstall the starter motor positive terminal cover.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the sunshade switch in the overhead console may not have been designed properly. As a result, the switch may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations that exist to reduce the risk of activating the sunshade unintentionally. Note: This recall affects both Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models.

Safety risk. A sunshade that closes unexpectedly could pinch a person and create a risk of injury.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the sunshade switch knobs in the overhead console.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the compliance label may be missing information in French. The words listed on the label for "Tires", "Rims", "Front" and "Rear" appear in English only, when they should be listed as "Tires/Pneus", "Rims/Jantes", "Front/Avant" and "Rear/Arriere". Canadian regulations require this information to be listed on the label in both English and French.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the floor wiring harness may not have been secured properly and could become damaged. As a result, the airbags may not deploy in a crash and/or the airbags could deploy without a crash. Note: This problem would cause the airbag warning light to turn on. This recall affects both the Santa Fe and Santa Fe hybrid models.

Safety risk. An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Additionally, an airbag that deploys without a crash could create a risk of injury.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, secure the floor wiring harness. If damage is found, the wiring harness will be replaced.

Issue. On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the transmission to become damaged. As a result, the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn't applied.

Safety risk. A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmission. The dealer will also update the transmission control unit software. To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai recommends that you should always use the parking brake when you park.

Issue. On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display properly. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing.

Safety risk. A rearview camera image that doesn't display properly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the rearview camera system software.

Issue. Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting an extended warranty campaign for certain vehicles as water could enter the horn assembly and cause the horn's electrical contacts to corrode. As a result, the horn may not work properly or at all.

Safety risk. A horn that doesn't work properly could prevent a driver from warning others of a danger and create an unsafe situation.

Corrective action. To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai advises you to test the horn regularly. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to contact a dealership if your horn doesn't work properly. Hyundai will provide an extended warranty of 10 years/200 000 km to replace the horn for free if it fails.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the rearview camera may not have been manufactured properly. Over time, the camera could fail and cause the rearview camera image not to display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Note: For the Santa Fe model, this recall affects both Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models. For the Elantra model, this recall affects both Elantra and Elantra Hybrid models.

Issue. Certain vehicles may be equipped with a 4-pin accessory trailer wiring harness kit that could fail. Over time, this could result in a short circuit that can cause the control module to overheat. Note: This recall only affects Hyundai Genuine 4-pin tow hitch wiring harness kits with the part number S2F67-AC401. These kits may have been ordered at the time of a vehicle purchase or purchased separately from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory.

Safety risk. A short circuit can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the vehicle for a trailer wiring harness kit. If necessary, the dealer will install a 15A fuse and a wire extension kit. Hyundai advises that if your vehicle has a tow hitch harness installed, you should park it outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue. On certain plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, a defect in the fuel tank could cause it to leak at the seam.

Safety risk. A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel tank.

Issue. Certain vehicles may have a programming error. As a result, the vehicles don't meet some of the anti-theft requirements in Canadian regulations.

Safety risk. A vehicle theft could create a safety risk.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle software.

Issue. On certain vehicles, there may be a problem with the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners. As a result, the seat belt pretensioners could explode in a crash. If this happens, small pieces of metal could hit people in the vehicle. Note: This recall only affects Santa Fe Hybrid (HEV) and Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) models.

Safety risk. A seat belt pretensioner that explodes could create a risk of injury.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to install protective caps over the driver and front passenger's seat belt pretensioners.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the control module for the antilock brake system (ABS) could short circuit. Note: This recall doesn't affect vehicles equipped with smart cruise control (SCC). This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2022-046. Vehicles that were already repaired under Hyundai recall R0208 don't require this repair.

When this happens, a programming error can cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels after 20-30 seconds. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

Issue. Hyundai is conducting a special service campaign that provides anti-corrosion treatment to certain underbody components. Over time, components under the vehicle, including brake lines could corrode. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak. A brake fluid leak can result in reduced braking.

Safety risk. Reduced braking can cause an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the underbody, including the brake lines. The dealer will apply an anti-corrosion treatment to certain parts, and replace the brake lines if necessary.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the rear parking assist sensors (mounted in the rear bumper) could short circuit. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2022-118. Vehicles that were already repaired under Hyundai recall R0212 don't require this repair.

Issue. Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects Santa Fe models equipped with a 2.4 L MPI engine, and Veloster models with a 1.6 L GDI engine.

Safety risk. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Hyundai advises you to immediately visit a Hyundai dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

Issue. On certain vehicles, engine oil can leak from the valve cover onto the alternator. If this happens, the charging system could stop working and cause a warning light to turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with this problem, the engine could shut off while driving, and you may not be able to restart it. Note: This recall replaces C0260 (Transport Canada recall 2016-309). Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.

Safety risk. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Note: If the battery charging indicator light is on, Hyundai recommends that you should arrange to have the vehicle inspected and repaired at a dealer immediately.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with a 1.6 L GDI, 2.0 L GDI, or 2.4 L MPI engine, the connecting rod bearings could wear prematurely. As a result, there could be an abnormal knocking noise from the engine and/or the oil pressure warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with worn connecting rod bearings, the engine could fail. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. In some cases, a damaged connecting rod could puncture the engine block and cause an oil leak. Note: For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) models are affected by this recall. Additional Note: Engine compartment fires can happen for many different reasons. In some cases, there is too much damage to find the cause of a fire.

Safety risk. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Oil that leaks onto a hot component could cause a fire.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an engine inspection test, to determine if there is bearing damage. If damage is found, the engine will be replaced. Dealers will also update the software for the engine control module. Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual.

Issue. Certain vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer wiring harness kit that could fail. Over time, this could result in a short circuit that can cause overheating of the control module. Note: This recall only affects Hyundai Genuine Accessory trailer wiring harness kits that were manufactured by third parties and sold in Canada. These kits may have been ordered at the time of a vehicle purchase, or purchased separately from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory.

Safety risk. A short circuit could create a fire risk. This risk remains even when the vehicle is parked.

Corrective action. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to inspect your vehicle to see if it has an affected trailer wiring harness installed. If it does, Hyundai will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a redesigned trailer wiring harness. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the front suspension coil springs may be susceptible to corrosion. Over time, corrosion could cause the springs to fail, potentially damaging front tires and causing rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Corrective action. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace coil springs as necessary, under a special service campaign.

Issue. This recall was replaced by Transport Canada Recall No. 2021-653. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.3L V6 engine, engine oil can leak onto the alternator, which could affect charging system function and potentially cause the engine to stall and not restart. This would result in a loss of motive power as well as affect power braking and power steering system function, which would unexpectedly increase steering and brake pedal effort, potentially increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Corrective action. Dealers will replace the front valve cover gasket and repair/replace the alternator, as necessary, under a special service campaign.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Corrective action. Dealers will replace the switch.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with an advanced airbag system, the Passive Occupant Detection System (PODS), installed in the right front seat of the vehicle, may misclassify a small stature adult as a child and deactivate the passenger frontal airbag. When the passenger frontal airbag is deactivated, the “PASS AIR BAG OFF” warning lamp will illuminate. This would cause the right front airbag to not inflate in a crash that merits airbag deployment, and may result in injury to the right front seat occupant. The condition will not affect the driver’s frontal airbag deployment.

Corrective action. Dealers will reprogram the PODS system.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the clockspring assembly for the driver's airbag may become damaged and fail. As a result the airbag may not function as intended, and the instrument panel warning lamp would illuminate. Failure of the driver's frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.

Corrective action. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag clockspring assembly.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the front suspension coil springs may be susceptible to corrosion. Over time, corrosion could cause the springs to fail, potentially damaging front tires and causing rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Corrective action. Dealers will inspect and replace coil springs as necessary. Additionally, a spring guide will be installed to prevent the coil spring from contacting the tire.

Issue. On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), road salt may cause internal corrosion of the rear trailing arms, which could lead to thinning or perforation of the trailing arm steel. In time, the trailing arms may fracture, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.

Corrective action. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear trailing arms. Should the trailing arms not require replacement, drainage holes will be added, as well as treatment with rust-proofing material to arrest the corrosion process.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine, 4wd and ABS, if the brake pedal is depressed at speeds between 5 and 20 km/h when the brake pad friction surfaces are wet, a condition called creep vibration may occur between the brake disc and pad. The ABS Electronic Control Unit may misinterpret the ABS sensor signal noise as indicating that the speed is above 7 km/h, causing it to activate the ABS, extending the stopping distance.

Corrective action. Dealer will reprogram the ABS ECU.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the wheel rims and the tire pressure labels do not comply with CMVSS 120. The rims do not contain the required markings and the tire pressure labels do not contain the rim size.

Corrective action. Hyundai will provide owners with a corrected tire pressure label. Since the non-compliant wheel rims do not pose any safety risk, no corrective action is required.

Issue. Certain vehicles equipped with 2.7 liter V-6 engines. Improperly manufactured crankshaft position sensors (cps) were installed. The CPS cases were improperly manufactured and did not meet dimensional specifications. Internal gaps within the cases allowed epoxy to contact the printed circuit board, which resulted in cracking of the printed circuit board capacitor. A damaged CPS capacitor could result in engine stalling.

Corrective action. Dealers will replace the CPS.
