How to choose a diesel repair shop in Alberta
Many diesel faults now start in the emissions system rather than in the engine. A warning about diesel exhaust fluid, the particulate filter or the SCR system needs a shop with a scan tool for your make and experience with that hardware, so ask which makes and engines the shop works on most: a light-duty pickup and a highway tractor are different trades.
Describe the work the truck does as well as its fault. Towing, long idling at job sites and short trips around town each wear different parts. For injectors or a turbocharger, ask whether the price includes programming the new parts to the engine computer where the maker requires it.
Diesel repair is automotive repair, so an Alberta shop doing it must hold an AMVIC licence. The province’s estimate rule applies as well: ask for the estimate in writing, and the bill cannot exceed it by more than 10%, to a maximum of $100, unless you agree to the difference.

Alberta’s Vehicle Equipment Regulation says equipment the manufacturer installed must be kept in good working order and to the manufacturer’s specifications, and a DPF or EGR valve is exactly that. When one fails, ask for a repair estimate rather than a removal.
