Issue. On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition lock actuator may make turning the ignition key difficult or cause the key to get stuck in the “start” position. This may be more likely to occur at higher interior ambient temperatures. If the vehicle is driven with the key stuck in the “start” position, and the vehicle experiences a significant jarring event or the vehicle’s interior temperature cools, the ignition key could move out of the “start” position, rotate past the “run” position, and move into the “accessory” position, causing the engine to shut off. This would result in a loss of motive power and affect power steering and power brake system function, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm in a crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury.

Issue. On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition lock cylinder could cause the key to stick in the "start" position if the vehicle interior temperature is sufficiently high. If the vehicle is operated in this condition and the interior temperature cools or the vehicle goes off-road or is subjected to some other jarring event, the key could move out of the "start" position, rotate past the "run" position and into the "accessory" position. If this were to occur, engine power, power steering and power braking would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury.

The lining of the rear brake shoe may detach from the steel shoe during normal service, causing the affected brake to fail. If the lining detaches from the steel shoe, it could cause rear-wheel lockup and it will reduce the available braking force which could lengthen the required stopping distance, and increase the risk of a crash without prior warning.

Corrective action. GM Dealers, ACDelco warehouse distributors and their professional installer customers are to inspect the manufacture date of the rear brake shoes and, if necessary, replace the shoes. A fractured park lock cable, or a defective steering lock module, may have been installed during vehicle assembly. This could allow the driver to shift out of PARK with the key in the OFF position or removed from the ignition. As well, the transmission may be shifted out of PARK without first depressing the brake pedal. The key may also be rotated to the OFF position and removed while the shifter is not in PARK. Issue. On certain vehicles, the interface between the electrical terminals of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower relay resistor module and the wiring connector (which powers the module) may be incapable of conducting higher current levels for sustained periods of operation. In addition, moisture and other contaminants (such as road de-icing materials) may enter the fresh air intake plenum and contact the internal circuit of the module or corrode the terminals. These conditions may cause the relay resistor module or wiring connector to overheat, causing various symptoms such as: the HVAC blower may not function on certain or all blower speed settings; a burning-plastic smell or smoke may be present in the vehicle, or; the HVAC blower may run continually with the ignition in the OFF position. These warning signs could, in certain instances, be leading indicators of an impending vehicle fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury.

Corrective action. Owners will be provided with additional warranty coverage for the blower motor resistor module/wiring connector overheating condition. Under this "special warranty coverage", should this condition occur within 10 years or 240,000 km from first vehicle registration, dealers will install a replacement blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.

This may result in illumination of the Airbag Readiness light along with a "Service Airbag" message on the Driver Information Center and, in certain instances, may cause inadvertent deployment of the seatbelt pretensioner and/or airbags. Inadvertent deployment of the driver and / or passenger front airbag in a non-accident (non-impact) situation may cause damage to the surrounding vehicle environment (windshield / instrument panel), and create expensive vehicle repair, including replacement of the airbag module(s). In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.

Corrective action. Dealers will remove the acoustic pad above the SDM.

Issue. Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 120 - Tire rim designation. These vehicles have an incomplete tire rim designation indicated on the compliance label. If a customer replaces a wheel with one that has a rim contour that is inappropriate for use with the tires on the vehicle, the mounting of the tire to the wheel and/or the tire/wheel assembly may not perform as designed/intended. In addition, certain vehicles are also missing the tire load rating on the label. If a tire of a lesser load rating than the original tire is installed, the tire may not be able to sustain the loads encountered during use.

Corrective action. Dealers will install a new partial label over the existing label. Corrected labels and application instructions will be mailed to customers. Dealers will receive labels for installation on the vehicles in inventory.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the galvanized-braided-steel tailgate support cables used to support the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position can corrode over time and fracture when loads are applied to them. Tailgate support cable corrosion may not be visible because of the plastic sheathing covering the cable. If one cable fractured, the remaining cable may retain the tailgate in a horizontal position. If the remaining cable was weakened by corrosion, it could fracture within moments of the first cable fracture. If both cables fractured, the tailgate would suddenly drop approximately 10 degrees and strike the top surface of the rear bumper. If anyone is sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fracture, they could fall and be injured. On vehicles without a rear bumper, the tailgate may drop to a lower position.

Corrective action. Dealers will replace the existing galvanized support cables with stainless steel support cables.

Under extreme steering manoeuvres, such as turning the steering wheel fully to the left or right while braking, the hose may fracture and leak fluid. If this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increase braking effort would be required. If power steering fluid were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the hydraulic brake booster's pressure accumulator may crack and/or separate from the Hydro-Boost assembly during normal vehicle operating conditions. If a separation occurred and the hood of the vehicle was open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. In addition, the presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. The loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort.

On certain vehicles converted to either dedicated or bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel usage, the throttle cable may contact and rub through the flexible pressurized fuel line creating a pinhole leak of natural gas to the atmosphere. A strong odour of natural gas may be detected from inside the vehicle, possibly accompanied by a hissing noise. If the natural gas were accidentally ignited, serious injury could result.

Corrective action. Dealer will secure the throttle cable to eliminate the possibility of contact with the CNG fuel line. The CNG fuel line and throttle cables are also to be inspected and replaced if evidence of wear is found.

This could cause retainer bearing friction, higher motor current draw and eventually render the ABS non-functional. The base brakes would still remain functional and if the operator were to ignore the red brake warning light, the higher rear brake input could cause rear wheel lock up with the possibility of a crash.

Issue. On certain 3500HD vehicles, the tapered hole in the drag link end that attaches to the pitman arm tapered ball stud may be machined too deep causing the hole to be oversized. A drag link with an oversized hole may not "seat" the pitman arm tapered ball stud when assembled. This could cause higher than normal friction between components during operation, and over time, result in a joint separation or a broken ball stud. If the joint separated or the ball stud broke while the vehicle was moving, steering control would be lost and a vehicle crash could occur without prior warning.

Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the steering linkage assembly, and if necessary, replace the drag link and pitman arm.

Sierras have been built in Oshawa, Ontario: GMT800 and GMT900 trucks at Oshawa Truck Assembly until 2009, and the 2019 Sierra Limited, until the plant stopped building vehicles in December 2019. Since truck production returned in 2021, GM Canada has described Oshawa’s output as Chevrolet Silverado pickups.[4][10]
GM Canada announced in 2026 that GM’s next-generation V8 engines for its full-size trucks and SUVs will be built at St. Catharines Propulsion in Ontario.[9][11]
Winter-relevant recalls include 2003–2007 HVAC blower resistors that could overheat after moisture and road de-icing material got in, and 2014–2019 rear-window defroster circuits on trucks with a power sliding rear window.[21][22]
