Overview
The Grand Caravan is the long-wheelbase version of the minivan Chrysler launched in 1984, and a Canadian product: every one was built at Windsor Assembly in Ontario. It led Canadian minivan sales for years on value and Stow ’n Go seating, and a large share went to fleet and rental buyers. The Dodge version ended with the 2020 model year; since 2021 Canada has had the Chrysler Grand Caravan, a Canada-only name for the Chrysler Voyager. There has been no all-wheel drive since 2008, so good winter tires matter in Calgary. Documented items include an ignition switch recall on 2008–2010 vans, owner reports of power module (TIPM) failures and no-starts, and of sliding door faults on 2016–2018 vans.

Chrysler Grand Caravan (RU)
2021 on
The Grand Caravan name moved to Chrysler as the Canadian version of the Chrysler Voyager, a lower-priced Pacifica with simpler styling. Built at Windsor Assembly.[1][6]

Fifth generation (RT)
2008–2020
Long wheelbase only, with no all-wheel drive. The 2011 refresh brought the 3.6 L Pentastar V6 and 6-speed automatic as the only powertrain and retuned suspension. Built in Windsor until the last one left the line on August 21, 2020.[1][3]

2001–2007
A larger body with available power sliding doors and liftgate, and Stow ’n Go fold-into-the-floor seats from 2005 (which ruled out all-wheel drive on those vans). Built at Windsor Assembly.[1][2]

Power steering cooler hose could split
On vans with the 3.3 L or 3.8 L V6, the upper power steering cooler hose could split and leak fluid onto hot parts, a fire risk. Dealers replace the hose (D37).[7]

Ignition could slip to accessory while driving
The wireless ignition node could let the key turn from On to Accessory, shutting off the engine and with it power steering, power brakes and the airbags. Until the repair, keep nothing else on the key; dealers fit a revised ignition module and key (L25, R03).[8][9]

Power module (TIPM) failures and no-starts
Owners have reported failures of the totally integrated power module in NHTSA complaints, including long cranking or no-starts traced to its fuel pump relay, stalling and random electrical faults. A shop can test the relay circuit before replacing the whole module.[14][15][16]

Driver window vent switch could overheat
Liquid spilled on the vent window switch in the driver armrest could make it overheat, smoke or burn. Dealers fit a redesigned switch (P25).[10]

Steering wheel wiring could fire the driver airbag
A short in the steering wheel wiring harness could deploy the driver airbag without a crash. Dealers inspect and replace the wiring and add a protective cover (T33).[11]

Sliding doors that will not open, close or lock
Owners have reported power sliding doors that fail to open, close or lock, and some that opened unexpectedly, in a large number of NHTSA complaints for these years. A dealer or shop should check the door latches, motors and wiring.[17][18]

Soft brake pedal from gas in the brake fluid
Gas bubbles could form in the brake fluid, giving a soft pedal and weaker braking. Dealers bleed the rear brakes (U86).[12]

Side curtain airbags may not inflate properly
Some Chrysler Grand Caravans have side curtain airbags that were not made properly. Transport Canada lists the recall (06C) with the fix under development at the time of posting.[13]

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the nuts that attach the windshield wiper arms may not have been tightened properly. This could cause the wipers to slip and not clear the windshield properly.
Safety risk. Windshield wipers that do not work properly could affect a driver's visibility. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action. FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to tighten the nuts on the windshield wiper arms.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French.
Safety risk. This error does not affect vehicle safety.
Corrective action. This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. Due to a production issue, a small number of vehicles were built with daytime running lamps (DRLs) that don't turn off when the fog lights are switched on. As of September 1, 2020, new Canadian regulations require the DRLs to turn off when the front fog lamps are switched on.
Safety risk. This is a technical non-compliance that is unlikely to affect vehicle safety.
Corrective action. This is not a recall. FCA Canada has confirmed that all other vehicles produced after September 1, 2020, comply with Canadian regulations.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the emblem on the steering wheel could become loose. If this happens, the emblem or its retainers could become projectiles when the airbag inflates in a crash.
Safety risk. Loose parts that are projected toward the occupants when an airbag deploys could increase the risk of an injury.
Corrective action. FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the airbag cover on the steering wheel.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the striker for the seat latches on the second and third row seats may not be properly welded. As a result, the seat or seat belt may not properly restrain passengers in a crash.
Safety risk. A seat or seat belt that moves or detaches in a crash could increase the risk of injury to passengers.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Safety risk. Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury.
Corrective action. The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. Certain vehicles may have a malfunctioning brake switch. This could allow the shifter lever to be shifted out of the PARK (P) position while the ignition is in the RUN mode without depressing the brake pedal, resulting in unintended vehicle movement. As a result, the rear lights could also remain illuminated, causing the following road users to be unaware of the driver’s intention. These situations could increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with the Roadside Emergency Kit containing a Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage.

Issue. On certain vehicles, an electrical short could occur in the steering wheel wiring harness, which could result in an inadvertent deployment of the driver frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the steering wheel wiring and replace it as necessary. A protective covering will also be installed on the wiring harness.

Issue. On certain Amerivan 10 wheelchair accessible vehicles built on Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country platforms, the crimp fasteners used to retain fittings in the fuel line may not be fully crimped or compressed. Issue. Issue. Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 212 - Windshield Mounting. The windshields of some vehicles may have been repaired using expired urethane primer. This may result in a windshield bond that does not meet the retention requirements outlined in the standard. As a result, the windshield may not be retained during a vehicle crash, which could increase the risk injury and/or damage to property.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the hood striker fasteners may not have been tightened to specification. As a result, the hood striker bracket could loosen over time and detach from the hood, causing the hood to open suddenly which could obstruct the driver’s vision, depending on driver reaction this could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the Wireless Ignition Node (a.k.a ignition switch) may allow the ignition key to inadvertently move from the ON position to the accessory (ACC) position while driving, causing the engine to shut off. This would result in a loss of motive power, power steering and power brakes, and would disable the airbags as well as other supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Increased steering and braking effort and a loss of motive power could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Loss of airbag / SRS function in a crash that warrants airbag deployment and/or other supplemental restraint system function could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Corrective action. Dealers will install a revised WIN module and frequency operated button ignition key (FOBIK). Note: Until the correction is performed, owners are advised to remove all objects from the FOBIK (Ignition Key) such as additional keys, key chains, etc, leaving only the FOBIK (ignition key). After starting the vehicle, drivers should ensure that the key is securely and correctly aligned in the “ON” position before driving the vehicle. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 2011096 and 2014261. Vehicles having been serviced as part of these previous recalls will require re-inspection and repair.

Issue. On certain vehicles modified for wheelchair accessibility by the Liberty Motor Company Inc., the rear axle may fracture due to a combination of corrosion damage and operation on rough roads. If the rear axle fractures, vehicle handling may be adversely affected, creating the risk of a crash and increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the right side liftgate sensor may not function as intended, resulting in an increase in force required to stop the power liftgate during its final closing stages. This could result in personal injury if a body part becomes trapped by the closing liftgate.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the right side power liftgate pinch sensor.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. Certain vehicles may have been equipped with an incorrectly manufactured right rear hub and bearing assembly. Hub failure could result in wheel separation. A wheel separating from the vehicle could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the right rear hub and bearing assembly.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine, debris in the cylinder block (from the manufacturing process) could cause connecting rod bearing and crankshaft bearing damage. As a result, abnormal engine performance may be noticed, and in some cases the engine could fail. Engine failure would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and driver reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the engine assembly.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. Certain vehicles may experience condensate (water) leakage from the Heater Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) drain grommet onto the occupant restraint control module. This could lead to illumination of the airbag warning lamp, and could cause inadvertent airbag deployment. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the occupant restraint control module. Note: This campaign follows recall 2010437 (Chrysler K25) where dealers replaced the HVAC drain grommet to correct the cause of the condensate leakage.

On certain vehicles, the Wireless Ignition Node (a.k.a ignition switch) may allow the ignition key to inadvertently move from the ON position to the accessory (ACC) position while driving, causing the engine to shut off. Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with power sliding doors, the sliding door wiring harness may have been routed improperly and chafe on the lower sliding door hinge bracket. This could result in a fire within the sliding door assembly, which could lead to property damage or personal injury.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the sliding door wire track harness and power drive unit wiring harness assemblies for damage. The harnesses will be repaired or replaced as necessary, and rerouted under the sliding door weatherstrip.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, an unused electrical connector may become corroded and eventually short circuit, affecting operation of the compass display, rear heater/AC blower, courtesy lamps and integral flashlight. Should the circuit fuse not blow, the connector could overheat and cause a vehicle fire.
Corrective action. Dealers will seal the power circuit at the unused connector and replace the fuse if necessary.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Safety risk. Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury.
Corrective action. The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles the left or right front supplemental airbag sensors may crack under certain conditions, which can allow water to enter into the sensor. This can cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. A malfunction of one or both of the supplemental sensors will not adversely affect safety or cause a failure to comply with government standards. The single-point sensor in these vehicles, which is located in the airbag control module, is operational even if both supplemental sensors are inoperative. DaimlerChrysler has decided to launch a Customer Satisfaction Notification to advise customers that these front airbag sensors will be replaced with redesigned sensors to reduce the potential for damage. This action is not being conducted under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles subject to conditions involving extreme heat and humidity, condensation from the instrument panel air conditioning ducts may drip through the vent holes in the top of the base equipment radio and results in a short circuit that subsequently sends direct current to the rear speakers. This could result in a speaker fire.
Corrective action. Dealers will apply a special tape to the top of the radio to eliminate the potential for water intrusion.

Issue. Certain vehicles do not comply with the requirements of CMVSS 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The daytime running lamps (DRL) do not function when the manual lighting switch is in the park lamp position. The standard requires that the daytime running lamps be on continuously unless the master lighting switch is in the park lamp position.
Corrective action. The body controller will be reprogrammed with software that will correct this condition.

Issue. On certain vehicles, increased clockspring terminal resistance or a back-winding condition of the clockspring may cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. Until the problem is remedied, the drivers airbag will not deploy as required in a frontal crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on vehicles with less than 115 000 kms. Owners of vehicles with over 115 000 kms will be offered extended lifetime warranty on the clockspring.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with the 3.3L or 3.8L engine the Nitrile "O-ring" seals used in the fuel rail may degrade over time and extended exposure to elevated temperatures. This could result in fuel leakage, and, in the presence of an ignition source, an underhood fire could occur.
Corrective action. External seals will be installed at both of the fuel rail crossover tube joints. If the crossover tube joints are leaking or red rust exists in the area, the fuel rail assembly must be replaced.

- Chrysler Grand Caravan is a Canada-only name; the same van is sold in the United States as the Chrysler Voyager.[1][6]
