Overview
The Durango is Dodge's three-row SUV. The first two generations (1998–2009) were truck-based, body-on-frame SUVs related to the Dakota and Ram pickups; after a gap for 2010 it returned in 2011 as a unibody SUV built alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee in Detroit. It suits Alberta families who tow: a Hemi V8 has been offered in every generation since 2004, and recent Canadian models come with all-wheel drive as standard. For owners, Transport Canada has documented a brake booster that could let water in and freeze on 2011–2014 models, a fuel pump relay that could cause no-starts or stalls on 2011–2013 models, sudden alternator failures, and Takata airbag inflator recalls on 2004–2009 models.

A unibody three-row SUV sharing its platform and powertrains with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, built at Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit. An 8-speed automatic arrived for 2014 and a 2021 refresh updated the interior; high-performance SRT versions followed from 2018.[1]

Second generation (HB)
2004–2009
Larger, on a fully boxed frame with a coil-spring rear axle and Watt’s linkage, and the first Chrysler SUV offered with the 5.7 L Hemi. The 2007 facelift added stability control. Newark Assembly closed in December 2008, ending production; there was no 2010 Durango.[1]

A body-on-frame SUV based on the Dakota pickup, seating up to eight. The 4.7 L V8 replaced the 5.2 L for 2000, when an all-wheel-drive R/T with a 5.9 L V8 was added. Built in Newark, Delaware.[1]

Front upper ball joints could wear and separate
On four-wheel-drive models, moisture could get into the upper ball joints, wash out the grease and corrode them until a joint separated. Dealers fitted better-sealed joints (D47); two-wheel-drive models got an extended warranty instead.[8]

Takata airbag inflator replacement
The driver (R25) and passenger (S43) front airbag inflators can rupture in a crash. Transport Canada notes the Canadian climate slows the degradation, but confirm both replacements were done on a used Durango.[9][10]

Brake booster could let water in and freeze
The brake booster centre shell could corrode and let water in, which can freeze in cold weather and reduce braking. Dealers replace leaking boosters and add a water shield (P14); a follow-up recall (T59) checks that the shield was installed correctly.[11][12]

Fuel pump relay could cause no-starts or stalling
The fuel pump relay, first inside the power module (TIPM) and then in its replacement, could fail and cause a no-start or a stall while driving. The final recall (V62) replaces the relay, bracket and wiring, even on vehicles repaired before.[13]

Alternator could fail suddenly
Certain alternators could fail without warning, stalling the engine and, in some cases, starting a fire. Dealers check the part number and replace affected alternators (P60, T36).[14][15]

Stability control warning lamp may not light
The ESC warning lamp might not come on when the stability control system has a fault. Dealers update the ABS module software (Z20).[16]

Rear spoiler could hit the body and detach
The rear spoiler could strike the body when the liftgate opens or closes, get damaged and come off. Dealers inspect and replace it as needed (20A).[17]

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by an FCA dealer during recalls Y73 and 20A (Transport Canada recall nos. 2021-663 and 2023-090) may not be effective. As a result, another repair is required. On certain vehicles, the rear spoiler could hit the body when opening and closing the liftgate. This could damage the spoiler and cause it to detach from the vehicle.
Safety risk. A spoiler that detaches from the vehicle could create a road hazard for others.
Corrective action. FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to modify or, if necessary, replace the rear spoiler. The dealer will also inspect and adjust the liftgate, as necessary.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by an FCA dealer during recall Z48 (Transport Canada recall no. 2022-305) may not be effective. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, a problem inside the hydraulic control unit (HCU) for the antilock brake system (ABS) could cause the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC) system not to work. This could also cause the brake lights to turn on or stay on without pressing the brake pedal, and it may allow the vehicle to be started and the transmission to be shifted out of the Park position (P) without pressing the brake pedal.
Safety risk. An antilock braking system and/or electronic stability control system that doesn't work could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Brake lights that stay on could cause others not to recognize when the vehicle is braking and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action. FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the integrated pressure transducer on the HCU. The dealer will also update the ABS software, if necessary.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French.
Safety risk. This error does not affect vehicle safety.
Corrective action. This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Note: For the Grand Cherokee model, this recall affects 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L models.
Safety risk. A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve could stick open. Under certain driving conditions, this could cause the engine to stall and result in a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 3.6 L engine.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the daytime running lamps (DRLs) will remain on when the driver switches the front fog lamps on. A recent change to Canadian regulations requires the DRLs to turn off when the fog lights are switched on.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the rearview camera image may be displayed even after the transmission is shifted out of reverse. This could cause a possible distraction for the driver. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to turn off within 10 seconds after shifting from reverse gear.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the fuel pump relay could fail. A fuel pump relay failure can result in a no-start condition or cause a sudden loss of engine power while driving. Note: Vehicles that had a fuel pump relay replaced as part of a Transport Canada Recall No. 2014-386 (FCA Recall No. P54) or 2015-085 (R09) require a second repair under this recall.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, an electronic fault may create a situation where the cruise control cannot be deactivated. If this occurs and the driver does not apply the brakes or shift the transmission to neutral, the vehicle could maintain speed or accelerate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software and perform an update as necessary. Note: In the interim, owners are advised not to use the cruise control until the vehicle is repaired.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, a brake booster shield may have been incorrectly installed as part of recall P14/2014-112. An incorrectly installed shield could be less effective in diverting water away from the brake booster, creating the possibility of corrosion allowing water to get inside. In a cold climate, water inside the brake booster could freeze limiting the braking ability of the vehicle, resulting in longer braking distances, increasing the risk of crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the installation of the brake booster shield and perform repairs as necessary.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering (“EHPS”), the alternator may fail suddenly. This could result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash as well as disable various vehicle safety systems, and could also cause a fire. Both issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the part number on the alternator, and will replace the alternator as necessary. Note: Only specific engine and alternator combinations are affected by this campaign.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with certain 3.6L V6 gasoline engines, the fuel rail crossover tube may be damaged. Over time this could result in a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of a vehicle fire causing injury and/or property damage.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the fuel rail crossover tube for damage. The fuel rail assembly and the lower intake manifold will be replaced on vehicles found to have the damage.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the left front brake caliper may have been cast from an incorrect material during manufacturing. This could cause the brake caliper to possibly crack under an extreme braking application. This could affect vehicle control and increase stopping distances, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the front left caliper date code and replace the caliper if it is from the suspect casting date.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with illuminated sun visor vanity mirrors with 120mm wiring, service repairs requiring removal of the sun visors and/or headliner may cause an electrical short circuit which could increase the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Vehicles equipped with 120mm wiring that were previously repaired under recall 2014-275 will require repair under this recall.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the sun visors and modify the surrounding sheet metal and install vanity lamp wiring guides.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. This recall was replaced by Transport Canada Recall No. 2019-573 (FCA Recall No. V62). On certain vehicles, a fuel pump relay within the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM-7) could fail, causing the engine to stall or to fail to start. Engine stalling would result in a loss of motive power, which, in conjunction with driver reactions and traffic conditions, could increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property.
Corrective action. Dealers will install a revised fuel pump relay external to the TIPM-7.

- Dodge.ca described all-wheel drive as standard on the 2023 Canadian Durango.[4]
- The 2011–2014 brake booster recall is specifically a cold-climate risk: water that gets into the booster can freeze, so it matters more in Calgary than in milder regions.[11]
- No Durango has been built in Canada: the first two generations came from Newark, Delaware, and the current one from Detroit, Michigan.[1]
