    Safety risk. A high-mounted stop lamp that does not turn on or that is blocked could make the vehicle less visible. Other drivers may not recognize that your vehicle is braking. This could increase the risk of a crash.

On certain trucks, the bed-cover could come loose while driving and detach from the truck. This problem affects soft and hard tri-fold tonneau covers that were sold as an accessory by General Motors dealers. Note: This recall is related to Transport Canada recalls 2019-494 and 2020-165. If your truck was previously repaired under either of those recalls, it does not require further repair under the new recall.

    Safety risk. A tonneau cover that separates from a moving vehicle could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people.

    Issue. This recall affects certain trucks equipped with optional 18", 20", or 22" wheels and tires. The spare tire has a smaller diameter than the tires on the truck. As a result, the antilock brake system (ABS) may not work properly on certain road surfaces when the spare tire is installed on a rear wheel position. This could lead to an increase in stopping distance or a loss of control.

The software error can cause the following symptoms: if the truck is started remotely using the Onstar mobile app or if an operator enters the truck and waits five or more minutes before starting it, the electronic brake assist could be disabled. This would also cause the ESC (electronic stability control), ABS (antilock brake system) and BRAKE warning lights to turn on.

    Issue. On certain vehicles, there may be an error in the electronic-brake control module software. This could cause the driveline-protection system to activate when a wheel-speed sensor fails. If this happens, the brakes could apply and cause the vehicle to pull to one side. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive, a 5.3-L engine, and a 3.08 ratio rear axle. The problem can only occur when the vehicle is in four-wheel drive or automatic mode, and travelling at a speed between 66 and 97 km/h (41 and 60 mph). A wheel-speed sensor failure will cause the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning lights to turn on, and a "Service StabiliTrak" message to display.

    Safety risk. A vehicle that suddenly pulls to one side could increase the risk of a crash.

This may be more likely to occur at higher interior ambient temperatures. If the vehicle is driven with the key stuck in the “start” position, and the vehicle experiences a significant jarring event or the vehicle’s interior temperature cools, the ignition key could move out of the “start” position, rotate past the “run” position, and move into the “accessory” position, causing the engine to shut off. On certain pickup trucks equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine and dual fuel tanks, the fuel tank transfer pump may malfunction, stopping the transfer of fuel from the rear tank to the front tank. This could cause the fuel gauge to display an inaccurate reading, and cause the front tank to become empty while fuel remains in the rear tank. This could result in engine stalling which, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions, and driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

On certain vehicles, the interface between the electrical terminals of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower relay resistor module and the wiring connector (which powers the module) may be incapable of conducting higher current levels for sustained periods of operation. In addition, moisture and other contaminants (such as road de-icing materials) may enter the fresh air intake plenum and contact the internal circuit of the module or corrode the terminals. These conditions may cause the relay resistor module or wiring connector to overheat, causing various symptoms such as: the HVAC blower may not function on certain or all blower speed settings; a burning-plastic smell or smoke may be present in the vehicle, or; the HVAC blower may run continually with the ignition in the OFF position. These warning signs could, in certain instances, be leading indicators of an impending vehicle fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury.

    Corrective action. Owners will be provided with additional warranty coverage for the blower motor resistor module/wiring connector overheating condition. Under this "special warranty coverage", should this condition occur within 10 years or 240,000 km from first vehicle registration, dealers will install a replacement blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.

On certain vehicles located in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) may corrode due to a significant quantity of snow and/or water containing road salt or other contaminants entering the vehicle and saturating the acoustical padding beneath the floor carpet. If sufficient moisture collects and is retained in the padding, it may cause excessive corrosion under the module; compromising the module seal and allowing water intrusion and system malfunction. This may result in illumination of the Airbag Readiness light along with a "Service Airbag" message on the Driver Information Center and, in certain instances, may cause inadvertent deployment of the seatbelt pretensioner and/or airbags. Inadvertent deployment of the driver and / or passenger front airbag in a non-accident (non-impact) situation may cause damage to the surrounding vehicle environment (windshield / instrument panel), and create expensive vehicle repair, including replacement of the airbag module(s). In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.

In addition, certain vehicles are also missing the tire load rating on the label. If a tire of a lesser load rating than the original tire is installed, the tire may not be able to sustain the loads encountered during use.

On certain vehicles, the galvanized-braided-steel tailgate support cables used to support the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position can corrode over time and fracture when loads are applied to them. Tailgate support cable corrosion may not be visible because of the plastic sheathing covering the cable. If one cable fractured, the remaining cable may retain the tailgate in a horizontal position. If the remaining cable was weakened by corrosion, it could fracture within moments of the first cable fracture. If both cables fractured, the tailgate would suddenly drop approximately 10 degrees and strike the top surface of the rear bumper. If anyone is sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fracture, they could fall and be injured. On certain vehicles converted to either dedicated or bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel usage, the throttle cable may contact and rub through the flexible pressurized fuel line creating a pinhole leak of natural gas to the atmosphere. A strong odour of natural gas may be detected from inside the vehicle, possibly accompanied by a hissing noise. If the natural gas were accidentally ignited, serious injury could result.

This could eventually wear a hole in the brake pipe over the normal life of the vehicle and result in a brake fluid leak. This could ultimately result in a partial brake system failure and increased stopping distances.

    Corrective action. Dealers will inspect for brake pipe wear and replace worn section if necessary. A spacer clip will be installed to ensure adequate clearance.

    Issue. Certain vehicles do not comply with the requirements of CMVSS 209 - Seat Belt Assemblies. These vehicles have front belt retractors that have higher G-force lock-up levels than those required by the standard. In addition, some retractors could have internal damage that could cause a "no-lock" condition. In the event of a vehicle crash, these conditions could result in increased occupant injury.

    Corrective action. Driver and passenger seat belt retractors will be replaced.

    Issue, risk and remedy

    Issue. Certain vehicles may have an Antilock Braking System (ABS) motor containing an out of specification spring clip which could in time become misaligned. This could cause retainer bearing friction, higher motor current draw and eventually render the ABS non-functional. This would cause the warning lights to illuminate and the Dynamic Rear Proportional (DRP) system to become inoperative. The base brakes would still remain functional and if the operator were to ignore the red brake warning light, the higher rear brake input could cause rear wheel lock up with the possibility of a crash.

    Corrective action. Dealers will replace the back pressure module valve assembly.

    Issue, risk and remedy

    Issue. On certain 3500HD vehicles, the tapered hole in the drag link end that attaches to the pitman arm tapered ball stud may be machined too deep causing the hole to be oversized. A drag link with an oversized hole may not "seat" the pitman arm tapered ball stud when assembled. This could cause higher than normal friction between components during operation, and over time, result in a joint separation or a broken ball stud. If the joint separated or the ball stud broke while the vehicle was moving, steering control would be lost and a vehicle crash could occur without prior warning.

    Corrective action. Dealers will inspect the steering linkage assembly, and if necessary, replace the drag link and pitman arm.
