This guide covers the Chevrolet Equinox across 4 generations from model year 2005. Transport Canada lists 25 recalls for it since the 2005 model year, the latest issued in February 2026 (list read ). The Equinox was built at CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll, Ontario from 2004 until April 29, 2022, and in 2010–2017 some bodies were also finished at Oshawa.
Overview
The Equinox is Chevrolet’s compact crossover: a five-seat family SUV with front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive available, bought by commuters, young families and anyone stepping up from a car for more room and winter traction. It arrived for 2005 and for most of its life was a Canadian-built vehicle, assembled at CAMI in Ingersoll, Ontario until 2022; today’s model comes from Mexico, and it is sold beside the separate battery-electric Equinox EV. For Alberta owners, the history matters: owners of 2010–2017 models with the 2.4 L four-cylinder have reported heavy oil use, those years also had a wiper-linkage corrosion recall, and 2018–2020 models draw owner complaints about hard brake pedals from vacuum pump failures.

Fourth generation
2025 on
Built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico on GM’s VSS-S platform, with the 1.5 L turbo carried over and an 11.3-inch touchscreen. Front-drive models used a CVT and all-wheel-drive models an eight-speed automatic until 2027, when every Equinox moved to the eight-speed.[1][3]

Third generation
2018–2024
A smaller Equinox with turbocharged engines, including a 1.6 L diesel for two years, and an all-wheel-drive system the driver can switch off. CAMI began building it in January 2017 and built its last Equinox in April 2022; the 2022 refresh added the RS trim.[1][2][4]

Redesigned with a direct-injection 2.4 L four-cylinder as standard and a V6 optional, both with six-speed automatics; the GMC Terrain was its sibling. Assembled at CAMI and Oshawa in Ontario and at Spring Hill, Tennessee.[1][2]

Built only at CAMI in Ingersoll, Ontario, on GM’s Theta platform, with a 3.4 L V6, a sliding rear seat and optional all-wheel drive. The Pontiac Torrent was its twin, and a 3.6 L V6 Equinox Sport arrived for 2008.[1][2]

Oil consumption on the 2.4 L four-cylinder
Piston ring wear can make the 2.4 L burn oil fast enough to trigger a low-oil-pressure warning; GM issued special coverage bulletins that replaced pistons and rings on 2011 models and, in the United States only, on 2013 models, and those coverages have since run out by age. Owners have also filed many NHTSA complaints about oil burning and timing chain wear on these engines.[6][7][17][18]

Windshield wiper linkage corrosion
Water draining from the cowl can corrode the wiper linkage ball joints until a wiper stops working. The recall moves the cowl drain holes and installs a revised wiper module. Transport Canada’s recall covers vehicles registered in Ontario, Quebec, the Atlantic provinces and British Columbia, so an Alberta Equinox is only included if it came from one of those provinces; check by VIN.[8][9][10][11]

Hard brake pedal from vacuum pump failure
Owners of 1.5 L turbo models have filed many NHTSA complaints about the brake vacuum pump failing, leaving a very hard pedal and a "Service Brake Assist" message. Have any brake-assist warning checked right away.[19][20]

Fuel pump module causing stalls
A recall covers fuel pumps that may not deliver enough fuel, causing hesitation, a check-engine light or a stall without restart. Owners of 2022 models have also reported fuel pump control module failures in NHTSA complaints.[12][13][21]

Transmission fluid leak from the start-stop accumulator
Bolts may be missing from the start-stop accumulator in the automatic transmission, letting fluid leak until the transmission stops driving the wheels. Transport Canada lists only 2019 Equinoxes (the U.S. recall is wider); dealers inspect the accumulator and replace it if bolts are missing.[14][15]

Daytime running lamp resistor corrosion
A cracked daytime running lamp resistor can let in water and road salt and corrode, and the lamps stop working. Transport Canada’s recall replaced the resistor.[16]

Issue. On certain vehicles, the owner's manual may be missing. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Note: For the Escalade model, the recall also affects certain 2026 model year Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL models.
Safety risk. A missing owner's manual could cause confusion on how to safely operate the vehicle and increase the risk of injury or a crash.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. The coating may be too thick on the connection bars for the lower universal anchorage system (UAS) for securing a child or booster seat in the rear seat. As a result, you may not be able to properly attach a child seat in the rear seat using the UAS.
Safety risk. A child seat that isn't properly attached could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective action. General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the bars for the lower universal anchorage system (UAS) in the rear seat. If necessary, the dealer will remove and replace the finish coating on lower anchorage bars. General Motors recommends to install child seats using the rear seat belts, as described in the vehicle owner's manual and child-seat manufacturer's installation guide, until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, a problem with the fuel pump may cause reduced fuel flow to the engine. If this happens, you may notice engine hesitation and the check engine light may turn on. This could also result in a sudden engine stall while driving and you may not be able to restart it.
Safety risk. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

As a result, the bolt could pull out of the joint and allow the seat to move in a crash. Issue. On certain vehicles, the start-stop accumulator in the transmission may be missing bolts. As a result, transmission fluid could leak and eventually cause the transmission to stop working. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels.
Safety risk. A transmission fluid leak onto a hot surface can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, a loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action. General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the transmission start-stop accumulator. It will be replaced if any bolts are found missing.

Issue. On certain vehicles, a joint on the high-pressure fuel pump may have been improperly welded during the manufacturing process. Over time, this could cause the weld to crack and create a potential fuel leak. Issue. Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 205 - Glazing Materials. The glass manufacturer may have failed to fully temper the front door window glass during the manufacturing process. If broken, improperly tempered glass could shatter into large fragments, which could increase the risk of injury.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the left and right front door glass.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Safety risk. Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury.
Corrective action. The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, front seat-mounted side impact airbag modules may contain a defect which, in the event of an airbag deployment, can cause airbag inflator components to separate and be propelled into the interior compartment, possibly striking occupants. It is also possible that the airbag may inflate only partially, or not at all, in the event of a crash. If the airbag components separate and are propelled into the interior compartment during deployment in a crash, or the airbag does not inflate, there may be an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace affected side airbag modules.

Issue. On certain vehicles equipped with power height adjustable front seats, a bolt securing the adjuster mechanism may loosen and fall out. Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the driver and/or front passenger seatbelt buckle anchors may fracture and separate near the seat attachment during a vehicle crash. If this were to occur, the seatbelt system may not restrain the seat occupant as intended, which could increase the risk of personal injuries during a crash.
Corrective action. Dealers will modify the passenger and, in some cases, the driver seatbelt buckle assemblies.

Issue. On certain vehicles, the software in the Integrated Center Stack can cause the heating, air conditioning, defrost, the radio controls, and the panel illumination to become inoperative. Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) resistor may crack. If water and road salt enters the crack, it could corrode the resistor. This could result in a loss of DRL illumination, and therefore, vehicles may be less visible to other motorists and pedestrians during daylight hours, possibly resulting in a crash causing personal injury or death.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the resistor until 7 years or 112,000 km from date vehicle was originally placed into service.

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. On certain vehicles, the passenger sensing system may fail to detect a small adult occupying the right front seat due to an error in seat sensor calibration. In the event of a crash severe enough to activate the airbags, the front passenger airbag may not deploy. This could increase the occupant's risk of injury. In addition, this condition can prevent the airbag from turning off when the seat is occupied by a small child. In the event of a crash, the front airbag could deploy and the child could be killed or seriously injured by the airbag.
Corrective action. Dealers will reprogram the seat's electronic control unit (ECU).

Issue, risk and remedy
Issue. Certain vehicles fail to conform to CMVSS 212 - Windshield Mounting. The windshield, liftgate glass and side stationary glass may not be properly secured to the vehicle body due to incorrect primer used during glass installation process. As a result, the windshield may not be retained during a frontal crash or rollover.
Corrective action. Dealers will replace the windshield, liftgate glass and side stationary glass.

Natural Resources Canada’s combined ratings (55% city, 45% highway driving) for the newest model years it has rated. NRCan rates every drivetrain, transmission and package separately, so each row gives the range across them. Canada notes
- The Equinox was built at CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll, Ontario from 2004 until April 29, 2022, and in 2010–2017 some bodies were also finished at Oshawa. The fourth-generation Equinox is built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.[1][2]
- Transport Canada’s wiper-corrosion recall first listed vehicles from Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, then added British Columbia in 2018; Alberta was not among the listed provinces, so check a used Equinox’s recall status by VIN.[8][9]
- For 2008 GM sold a Canada-only Equinox Team Canada Edition to mark the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.[1]
- All-wheel drive has been available on every generation; for 2019 Chevrolet Canada offered it on the LS and LT and made it standard on the Premier, with the Canadian lineup also including the 1.6 L diesel.[1][4]
